Bespoke Versus All-User Office Chairs?
You can pay an awful lot of money for office chairs. You can have them designed and fitted to the individual sizes of the person who will sit in them at their desks. The seat can be placed within the overall structure of the office chair so that the office worker can comfortably rest their feet flat on the floor. The depth of the seat can be modelled to the length of the sitters’ upper legs, from knee to hips. The material and the cushioning can be made to the color and comfort specifications of the seat occupant. Most office chairs are black or brown leather or faux leather plastic, but the range available to fit with office décor themes is enormous.
The height of the back support column and it’s cushioning can be exactly built to the design of the chairperson. Likewise the armrests can be minutely adjusted to the nearest millimetre so that they match the body of the buyer like a hand in a glove. Bespoke office chairs can be matched exactly with the desk of the office person. The desktop will just clear the armrests and allow the sitter to get up close and personal with their work and support their arm access to the keyboard. A bespoke office chair like this will cost a great deal and is more about executive office furniture than it is about good office chairs.
Reception furniture is a whole new ball game. No designer expensive tailored office chairs in the reception because the type of use could not possibly justify the expense. Unless you plan to keep people waiting for long periods of time individual comfort is less of a consideration than say durability combined with aesthetic appeal. Maybe you would want to keep your creditors waiting on your reception furniture for days on end but then would you be concerned with their comfort?
You would of course be concerned with the comfort and the productivity of your employees, not to mention their health and safety when it comes to general office chairs. You can meet all three of these criteria at nowhere near the expense of the executive office chairs, because the principal design criteria will be adjustability of the office chairs body dimensions. The aim is for one chair that can be set to meet the support and comfort requirements of everyone within a reasonable range of physical types.
Keep your employees feet on the ground, literally, and their backs straight while taking the strain on their arms, wrists and eyes with the appropriate distance between office chairs, office desks and computer screens. Nobody can hold a single body position for too long without feeling the strain. So what is very important in the office environment is to insist that people adopt the correct seating position while working but break regularly in order to flex all other muscles.
When purchasing executive furniture the focus is on the individuals who will occupy them. Fitting the sitters to the chairs. When buying general office chairs the focus need to be on adjustability, safety and durability. Fitting the chairs to the sitters.
