happier man

We know the world is doomed.
We know that life is cursed.
If you berate the hand of fate,
you'll only make things worse.

Know your limitations.
Formulate a better plan.
Modify your aspirations.
Be a happier man.

American Conservative endorses Kerry

"Kerry's the one!" according to Pat Buchanan's right-wing magazine The American Conservative (is that redundant? buchanan... right-wing... conservative...)

It's not too big a shock that those of the Buchanan mindset don't like Bush, and their endorsement of Kerry comes with the caveat that he's a short-timer in the making ("his dearth of charisma would likely ensure him a single term"). Honestly, I can't say I disagree much in the general idea.

86 years of torment

Look, I've only been a Red Sox fan since 1999. I grew up in Dallas a long-suffering Rangers fan with sparse baseball happiness sprinkled with the occassional Nolan Ryan no-hitter. But along comes political bitterness toward new Rangers owner Tom Hicks (of ClearChannel) and a romantic interest in "The Curse," and during the 1999 ALCS between the BoSox and the Yanks I found a new team.

Just one win away from eradicating the most foul of all sports stigmas, I feel such excitement for those who've waited so many decades for a beantown world series championship. I think I'm past the point of anticipating disaster at any moment. While it's still possible for a classic Boston collapse, I think the Series is in hand.

So hopefully after tonight, the Red Sox will have exorcised those demons by winning the World Series and the rest of the country can move on to pitying the Cubbies.

who likes blogging? I do.

I'm back on the ground. I survived the plane trip and the wedding (the latter being a much more enjoyable experience). I got to meet Mike and avoid a shooting. Life, as a whole, is good.

Plus, I'm no longer teaching. The past two weeks have been the happiest I've had since moving to Massachusetts a year and a half ago.

Oh yes, I think I'll start blogging again, too.
